Beirut, (SANA)- Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi stressed that Pope Francis' position on the US-Western aggression on Syria as well as the contacts he made have contributed to curbing this aggression.
In a statement to the reporters upon leaving for the Vatican Tuesday, Patriarch al-Rahi said war and violence always breed more war and violence, adding "We can't say that it's possible to carry out a limited military strike as no one knows what could follow."
"The important thing is that the whole world have responded and prayed along the Pope to ward off the war against Syria," said the Patriarch.
He expressed his hope that Russian-US agreement on putting the chemical weapons on Syria under international control will be implemented, noting that this agreement has helped spare the region a new war and more devastation and victims.
Patriarch al-Rahi also hoped that the next step will be that of seeking to solve the crisis in Syria through political and diplomatic means in terms of negotiations and dialogue so as to reach peace among the conflicting sides.
He urged the officials in the world to listen to the voice of conscience and not that of the economic and private interests, reiterating that the aggression on Syria would be a war of arms trade.
