Capitals, (SANA) _Pope Francis on Sunday repeated his appeal for peace in Syria, blasting the ''commercial wars'' for selling weapons to which he attributed the sad events rocking the country.
The Pope's comments came hours after he addressed an estimated 100,000 people in St Peter's Square in a day of fasting and prayer aimed at encouraging peace in Syria.
"The war against evil means saying no to violence in all its forms, saying no to the proliferation of arms and the illegal trade in arms,'' the Pope pointed out.
"There is always the doubt whether these wars here or there are wars for real problems or wars to sell arms," he said.
"The violence and devastation in Syria should stop immediately and we should work with renewed commitment for a just solution,'' the Pope added.
Tens of thousands of people filled St. Peter's Square for a Syria peace vigil late Saturday in the Vatican, answering Pope Francis' call for a cry for peace that was echoed by peace supporters around the world.
