Iran is planning to mount a big cinematic project on the 1979 US embassy incident to give a true image of this historical event distorted in the American movie Argo.
Iranian filmmaker and actor Ataollah Salmanian is slated to represent the story as an appropriate response to Ben Affleck’s blockbuster and ahistoric film, Argo, Mehr News Agency has reported.
The Iranian version titled The General Staff chronicles the story of the 20 American hostages who were delivered to the United States by Iran’s revolutionaries, Salmanian described.
The film based on eyewitness accounts depicts the historical event unlike the American version which lacks a proper view of the story, he added.
Iran’s Art Bureau is to finance the Salmanian’s The General Staff which is scheduled to start production phase next year.
Made on a budget of about USD 44 million by the Warner Bros, Ben Affleck’s Argo is replete with historical inaccuracies and distortions.
Released in August, 2012, the Iranophobic American movie attempts to describe Iranians as overemotional, irrational, insane, and diabolical while at the same, the CIA agents are represented as heroically patriotic.
Argo as “an arrant instance of Hollywoodism” is a far cry from a balanced narration in which everything is narrated one-sidedly.
