OUR PRAYERS FOR A NEW EGYPT

Islamic Educational Center congratulates the Egyptian people on their second and most extraordinary revolution. The power of the people toppled the country’s first freely elected president on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2013.

Although disguised under Islam, Morsi’s display of rule was increasingly authoritarian and despotic, and such a rule clashes with Islam and freedom loving citizens.

Morsi has been consolidating his grip on power while alienating and marginalizing his opponents.
He provided the worst example of an “Islamist” ruler under a democratic name.

President Morsi failed to protect his citizens. Sectarianism flourished and harmony amongst Egyptians perished under his rule. He was more concerned about power than the dignity and well being of his people. One of his major mistakes is that he allied himself with the radical Salafi movement in Egypt, which swims against current of mainstream Egyptians. As a result, he could not gain the trust of the majority people of Egypt let alone the minority sects.

Our support and prayers are with the Egyptian people during this transitional period. We hope that they hold strong to one another under these challenging circumstances. We pray for a peaceful transition and genuine leadership in a new election.

Despite the Muslim Brotherhood’s existence in Egypt for over seventy years, their governing strategy could not withstand the will of the people in its one-year tenure. Such an incident should mark a lesson for the Muslim Brotherhood. We encourage them and other Islamists in the region to revisit their principles and draw lessons from the ouster of Morsi.
