The presidents of the United States and Mexico have spoken out against Arizona's new immigration law that calls for a crackdown on illegal immigration.

According to AFP, speaking at a joint press conference with his Mexican counterpart Felipe Calderon on Wednesday, Barack Obama criticized the Arizona law, saying it had the potential to be used in a discriminatory fashion.

The US president went further to mention a legal challenge to the controversial law, saying he had ordered a Justice Department review to see if the ruling was in violation of federal civil rights statutes.

Meanwhile, President Calderon said that the contentious law criminalized immigrants. He went on to promise cooperation with the Obama administration to resolve the issue.
