US taking revenge on Iranians for not surrendering: Analyst

The United States and its allies are taking revenge on the Iranian people for refusing to surrender to the hegemonic policies of the Western powers, an analyst says.

Iranian patients suffering from rare diseases are in dire conditions because of the shortage of medications caused by illegal US-engineered sanctions against the Islamic Republic. Due to the unilateral sanctions imposed against Iran by the United States and its allies, certain medicines are no longer imported into the country and this has endangered the lives of many patients especially those suffering from rare diseases.

In an interview with Press TV, Caleb Maupin, with the International Action Center in New York, shares his thoughts regarding the issue. Below is an approximate transcript of the interview.

Press TV: Certainly that was quite a heart wrenching reporter’s package. You have to wonder how does it serve the West’s interests in Iran by sanctioning in such a way that these medicines cannot enter the country?

Maupin: These sanctions are really an act of war against the Iranian people and it is a crime. Similar sanctions were imposed on Iraq during the 90s and resulted in really millions of people dying because they could not get the medical supplies and other technology.

And this is really retaliation against the Iranian people for their refusal to surrender to the United States and their ability to align with the Palestinian people, with the people of Venezuela, with the people all around the world that are opposing the will of Wall Street and the bankers and the corporations that dominate the world, especially their will to oppose Israel which continues to threaten the people of the Middle East and it is a crime.

People are dying as a result of the crimes of the US and these criminal sanctions.

Press TV: So what is this down to? Is this down to appeasing Israel on the part of the United States or is this down to just bad policy making?

Maupin: Israel and the United States are allies and they continue to work to serve the will of Wall Street and the banks and corporations and they continue to serve that agenda and Iran has aligned with countries around the world that it refused to obey the will of Wall Street and ... for their people and as a result of that, Iran is being targeted especially for Iran’s aid for the Palestinian people and their refusal to surrender and that is not odd.

Israel and the United States must be opposed to what is an act of war against the Iranian people.

Press TV: So do you believe then that the average American realizes what is being done in their name?

Maupin: Absolutely, people in the United States do not realize what is going on. Most people in the United States do not know what sanctions mean. They do not realize that it translates to people ... They do not understand what that means, these sanctions.

That is a word, a code word but it is an act of war. It results in real human being suffering. These are real human beings. There is a big attempt right now.

At the Oscars, the US gave the Oscar to this anti-Iranian propaganda film ‘Argo’. There is a big attempt to dehumanize the Iranian people but the reality is these are real people who are being harmed.
