US to up pressure on Iran over 'plot'
Wednesday, 19 October 2011 11:15
The US government says it is working with its allies to escalate pressure on Iran over allegation of Tehran's involvement in a plot to assassinate the Saudi envoy to Washington.
According to Press TV, this comes as the UN Security Council is set to review the American accusation against the Islamic Republic.
Last week, the US Justice Department accused Iran of involvement in a plot to assassinate Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Washington Adel Al-Jubeir with help from a suspected member of a Mexican drug cartel.
Saudi Arabia seized on the US allegation, while both Washington and Riyadh have failed to provide any evidence to back up their claims.
Iran has categorically denied Washington's latest accusation, saying the allegation is a 'ludicrous' claim based on the joint US-Zionist regime posture against the Islamic Republic and meant to divert attention from the growing anti-Wall Street movement across the United States.
